Day 1: The Perfect Send-off

The bike ride has officially begun! Starting early in the morning, we all met at the Anacortes Ferry with family, friends, and KING TV (out of Seattle) for the big send-off. By 7:30am the support car was packed and organized, goodbyes were quickly said, and the brothers were ready for takeoff. Bobby said “Everything about the first day was incredible. The sendoff was perfect and made for a great day of riding with all the love and support we felt.”

The three brothers and Dylan (Raleigh’s son) started off really strong and went about 25 miles until they stopped with Ken Osborne for a smoothie at Timber Espresso in Sedro-Woolley. Shortly after getting back on the bikes Dennis won the trophy of not only the first, but also the second flat tire for the ride. Dylan gave up his bike and helped Chels & Sandy run some errands in Bellingham and get a new tire on Dennis’s bike. Going roughly another 25 miles, everyone stopped for lunch in Concrete where they had delicious pizza at Annie’s Pizza Station and got to meet Annie herself.

After lunch Dylan hopped back on the bikes with the brothers and rode another 19 miles into Marblemont where they checked into the Buffalo Run Inn for the night, where Kim (Raleigh’s wife) and Cameo (Dylan’s wife) met up for one last goodbye. The crew had a quick dinner and beers at Lone Star in Concrete before calling it an early night by 8PM.

The roads were mainly flat, the sun was shining the whole time, and the weather was just cool enough. The whole day was incredible and the “best biking day” Bobby has had. Raleigh said “the scenery and weather couldn’t be beat” and Dennis thought it was an “amazing way to start the journey.”

Day 1 Recap:
68 miles, average of 19 mph, 73 degrees and sunny, 2 flat tires, 4 happy riders
